Firstworks was sponsored by First Night, Inc., Boston. Each program in this series offered one monumental twentieth century work with one First Night premiere. The commissioned composer for each concert knew in advance which masterpiece his or her new work would be paired with. Cumulatively, the four programs explored varying evocative styles of the twentieth century while producing four substantial chamber works. Each program was performed twice every New Year's Eve from 1996-1999 at the First & Second Church, Boston, MA. | |
